Tommy Hughes, who was born in St Boswells in 1907, was the greatest keeper of his generation of the distinctive Borders style of fiddle playing. James Thomson was a poet, born in Ednam in 1700, who wrote the words to “Rule Britannia”- hence the waves in the square.
