Mountain biking helps people get out more, feel better and have a lot of fun. The rolling hills of the Scottish Borders are the best place in the UK for mountain biking. While many Borderers have always ridden bikes, the development of mountain bike trails at Innerleithen and Glentress near Peebles in the late 1990s really started the momentum rolling, now attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors as well as those who call it home. The trails were dug by talented locals with skill that now draws appreciation from all around the world. Events held in the Tweed Valley have attracted the fastest racers in the world to test themselves on our trails. They have also inspired young Borderers to not only dream big but win big. 2020 UCI Downhill World Champion Reece Wilson hails from Gordon and Ruaridh Cunningham a Junior World Champion comes from Stow. With a thirst for the countryside, mountain biking is drawing people back to our towns and breathing fresh life to communities, making the next generation feel even prouder of where they call home.
The 2-wav radio in the right-hand corner is dedicated to the Borders Search and Rescue Unit and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue. Our Mountain Rescue teams, which cover the Scottish Borders, are made up of volunteers who assist when our outdoor adventures do not go to plan.
