St Abbs is a popular site for scuba divers due to the unusually clear waters and spectacular underwater scenery. Britain’s first Voluntary Marine Reserve was established here in 1984 by David Bellamy.
St Abbs has its own privately funded and independent Lifeboat Station established following the closure of the RNLI station in 2015. The lifeboat station reopened in 2016 a result of a large amount of local fund- raising and a generous donation from Sir Boyd Tunnock of the Tunnocks Bakery Company, resulting in the new lifeboat being named the “Thomas Tunnock’.
The village also features in the 2019 film Avengers: ‘Endgame’ as the location of New Asgard, home of Thor.
