Melrose hosts the oldest rugby sevens tournament in the world, dating back to 1883 when sevens was invented by Ned Haig. The main colours are black and yellow. The Melrose competition kicks off the ‘Kings of the Sevens’ season which runs throughout the spring and summer right across the Borders – Melrose, Galashiels, Berwick, Langholm, Kelso, Earlston, Selkirk, Jedforest, Peebles, Hawick.
